Legacy of Silver and Radium
Jáchymov is a spa town lying at the foot of the Ore Mountains at an altitude of 720 m a.s.l. Thanks to silver mining, the town became the second most populous city in Bohemia after 1516.
Jáchymov Thaler
In 1519, silver coins called Joachimsthaler (Thaler) were minted here, becoming the predecessor of the US dollar. Today, the historic core is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
Marie Curie & Radium
